Students will analyze and discuss texts from poets such as Adonis, Nizar Qabbani, Mohammed Omran, and Mohammed Maghout, as well as short stories from writers such as Zakaria Tamer and Walid Ekhlasi. The class will also read a contemporary novel by Khalid Khalifa and a play by Saadallah Wannous. The materials assigned in the course will give a theoretical introduction to and provide an overview of the historical background of literature styles in Syria, as well as its most prominent issues and distinguished writers.
