ASST 779 - Int'l Rel & Diplo of East Asia
This is a graduate–level reading and writing seminar. Substantively, we will make you conversant with some of the core debates and policy issues in the field, including regional security and stability, trade architecture, U.S. alliances, national identity, unresolved historical disputes, China’s rise, Japan’s future, Korean unification, and crisis diplomacy. Students will do shorting writing assignments throughout the semester as building-blocks for one article-length paper of publishable quality.

Victor Cha is Professor of Government and Director of Asian Studies at Georgetown, where he has been teaching for 21 years. He previously worked at the White House as an advisor on Asia, and won two commendations for his public service. He has also won the Georgetown Dean’s Teaching Award. In addition to writing many books, he has a cameo appearance in a movie (as himself) and has appeared as a featured guest on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. A native of New York, he is a Giants, Yankees, and Knicks fan.
