HESY 207 - Mgmt Systems:Hlth Care Organzt
This course examines managerial systems in contemporary health care organizations along the continuum, from primary care to acute and long-term care. Managed care organizations, ambulatory care organizations, home health agencies, and hospice, among other health service organizations, also are covered. The course will present information and insight that can help set the benchmarks of excellence in the management of health services. The impact of market forces and the regulatory environment on cost containment and quality improvement are analyzed. Managerial systems such as purchasing and inventory control, contracting and billing, information and scheduling systems are analyzed. Measures of organizational effectiveness are critiqued, and the links between health care organizations and the health of populations are examined. The writing assignments based on industry literature and the Board Presentation are required to facilitate the application of theory to managerial practice in the context of contemporary issues and challenges facing health care providers and organizations nationally and specifically within the D.C. area marketplace.
