HSCI 183 - Intro to Behavioral Science
Introduction to Behavioral Science is a general introduction to the theoretical perspectives that frame social science research today. Designed for NHS Human Science students this course will acquaint students with the psychological and sociological foundations of behavior that are now recognized to be essential for a career focused on human health. This course is unique in that it offers integrated introduction to the theoretical traditions from sociology and psychology while demonstrating how findings and insights from these fields pertain to the science, practice and distribution of human health and healthcare. There are four main topics. Each topic will 1) introduce students to the classic literature and seminal works associated with each topic and 2) demonstrate the relevance of behavioral science to health-related issues through exposure to contemporary empirical studies focused on health and health care issues today.
