ITAL 373 - Italian Actors and Actresses
This course will focus on the writings of Italian religious and lay women from the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries. We will read works from different genres (theater, narrative prose, correspondence, lyric poetry, etc.), written by women from different social and cultural backgrounds. We will discuss such issues as women's access to education and their role in society, as well as their contributions to spirituality and literature. Texts will include anthologies of texts in Italian: "Scrittrici mistiche italiane" and a bilingual anthology of Italian Women Poets of the Renaissance. Conducted in Italian.
