LASP 514 - Trade: Americas
This course provides an introduction to basic economic, legal and political concepts related to trade policy. We will examine contemporary issues related to and affecting Latin America’s trade policy such as the rise of China and East Asia as trading partners; the natural resource curse; energy market dynamics; the environmental implications of trade and underlying microeconomic and logistical issues that affect countries’ competitiveness. We will also examine the bifurcated (or trifurcated) trade policy approaches in the region with a view to understanding the bases thereof and assessing future prospects.
