MSFS 615 - Public-Private Partnerships
Public-private partnerships have come to represent a range of relationships that include managing infrastructure projects to addressing acute social problems in both a developed and developing market context. They are not new, but their expansion to address a whole new range of social and economic development issues is. This course will explore the drivers behind this evolution and introduce students to new, unique ways the private sector and market incentives are changing the public- private nexus.
We will begin with the historical and theoretical context for PPP’s, but the focus of the course will be on acquiring the skills needed to create, negotiate, and manage successful multi-stakeholder partnerships. We will look at the evolution of CSR and explore how companies assuage bottom-line responsibilities and risk management teams while aligning and complementing broader government/public sector social programs and effectively partnering with international and local NGO’s. Students will have face-to-face interaction with experts/mentors/clients representing the private sector, NGOs, government and intergovernmental organizations as we use a team approach to design, construct, pitch, and collectively critique a series of PPP’s.
