PORT 356 - Survey of Brazilian Literature
A survey of Brazilian literature from 1500 to the present. Students will engage a wide variety of texts, including representative works of colonial period, romanticism, realism, modernism and postmodernism. Special consideration will be given to the idea of a national literature, looking at issues such as local and “universal”, country and city, representations of race, gender, class, and sexuality. This class will be taught in Spanish. Discussions will be conducted in Spanish or Portuguese (for students who don't speak Spanish). Professor will also make special arrangements for non-Spanish speaking students.
