PPOL 698 - Public Opinion & Polling Resea
In this course, we will survey the major literature on public opinion and seek to understand how citizens come to develop attitudes and evaluations of politics and policies. Theories of political and social psychology, economics, cognition, and collective action will provide different perspectives on the topic. Given the important role that opinion polling has played in this field, we will also study how public opinion is measured by designing, fielding, and analyzing our own public opinion survey. Though the focus of this course will be on American politics, much of the literature has comparative implications and parallels. Research in this field is heavily quantitative so it is recommended that students have at least one semester of statistics, such as Quant 1, prior to taking this course.
