RUSS 358 - Russian Internet
This course will study Russian Internet as a unique phenomenon with its own cultural status, history, ethical codes, and even grammatical rules. Students will get acquainted with the major literary and scholarly magazines, fiction and non-fiction libraries, and collections of films and music. They will learn to navigate Russian sites and identify reliable information sources. We will discuss the issues of intellectual property and censorship on the Internet, and study the peculiarities of Russian social networks, Internet memes and myths. The course is taught in Russian and expects students to do substantial research of Russian web-space.
