RUSS 455 - Russia(n) in Cinema
This course explores how Russian history is reflected in cinema: how the major events of the twentieth century – from the Revolution to the collapse of the Soviet Union – correlate with stylistic changes in films. New Year’s on the screen, strolls through the city, Soviet ménages à trois, Russian Hollywood, Soviet rock music – these are just a few of the topics we are going to discuss in class.  Students will become acquainted with the major names in Russian cinema and will learn to analyze the language of the cinema – in Russian.
