SEST 696 - Maritime Conflict in Asia
This course will begin with a brief historical overview of maritime conflicts in Asia, including the Sino-French War of 1884, the Sino-Japanese War of 1895, the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05, World War I, and World War II. We will then move on to current maritime issues and potential conflicts, with a focus on Taiwan, the East China Sea, the South China Sea, and the Indian Ocean. The course will also address general maritime issues, including piracy and other criminal activities at sea,terrorism, and resources disputes.
