SOCI 130 - International Demography
TR 12:30-1:45PM

Students taking International Demography will learn about similarities and differences across the globe in major life-course events. The course will have a heavy emphasis on families: variation in the prevalence of extended family living, marriage, cohabitation, and living alone. We will also investigate why we should care: how families shape fertility, human capital, migration, and mortality, and whether these effects vary along cultural lines or with socioeconomic development. We will also take up international variation in the transition to adulthood and why it matters for individuals and communities.
