SOCI 201 - Methods of Social Research

This course is an introduction to the nature, logic and methods of social science.  It reviews each of the major research designs including survey research, field studies, analysis of available data and experimental design plus the logic of sampling.  The pedagogy is to learn by doing.  Students are given a series of short assignments in which they apply the concept discussed in class.  Most assignments involve computer-based quantitative analysis.
The course has a mid-term and a final exam; a series of brief exercises; and a research paper in which a social theory is tested with quantitative data.

Prerequisite: One sociology course
