SPAN 395 - Translation As A Way Out
This course aims to introduce students to the methodologies and techniques necessary to succeed in non-specialized translation. The methodology of the course will be essentially practical, although some theoretical contents necessary to succeed in translation will also be introduced. The course will also provide students with an overview of a number of useful techniques and resources, such as computer-assisted translation tools.

Throughout the semester we will look at translation from two different perspectives: a) as a communication tool that allows societies to add new ideas to the collective imaginary, and b) as a tool that minority cultures rely on to gain visibility and to disseminate their cultural products and general knowledge of their singular cultures, thus the title of the course "translation as a way out'.
