SPAN 456 - Survey of Brazilian Literature
A survey of Brazilian literature from 1500 to the present. Students will engage a wide variety of texts, including representative works of colonial period, romanticism, realism, modernism and postmodernism. Special consideration will be given to the idea of a national literature, looking at issues such as local and “universal”, country and city, representations of race, gender, class, and sexuality.  Note: This class is taught in Spanish. Readings are in Portuguese and Spanish or/and English.
