WGST 240 - Context for Study of Sexuality
This course provides an overview of the theoretical, historical and political contexts within which the fields of queer theory and sexuality and gender studies operate. It highlights topics such as the emergence of modern sexual identity, LGBT rights, queer community-building and world-making, and transgender politics. Specific attention will be paid to the relationship between feminist and queer thought, and to the gendered, raced and classed dimensions of sexual politics. This class is reading-intensive; students will write regular short papers, engage in both in-class and online discussions, and complete an independent research project.

[This course will fulfill the Feminist Theory requirement for the Women’s and Gender Studies major, minor and certificate.]
