STIA 388 - Tech & Global Economy
What opportunities and challenges do new technologies present for the future economy, in the U.S. and around the world? This class will review the promise and perils of data and technology on society and economy, with an emphasis on policy perspectives. The course will cover both domestic challenges (including AI, automation and the future of work) and global challenges, especially for developing countries. Large parts of the course will be interactive, using case studies and simulations to gain a hands-on understanding of the challenges that international policy makers face in trying to harness the potential of rapidly-changing technology on growth and productivity while avoiding the potential downsides of automation, privacy, and security.
