INAF 188 - How to Fight for Human Rights
Professor Forman served as the State Department's Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism during President Obama's second term and currently he serves as the Senior Advisor for Combatting Antisemitism at Human Rights First. The course is designed to introduce students (through the lens of today's antisemitism) the nature of hate in 2020, the tools governments, non-government organization (NGOs) and citizen activists have to confront that hate and the allies that can be recruited for the battle for human rights. Students will have the opportunity to hear from Professor Forman as well as outside experts from government and the NGO world about as how these institutions can confront Islamophobia, racism, xenophobia and today's antisemitism. Each student will be asked to select a country where they will be asked to analyze the unique nature of antisemitism and xenophobia. The class culminates with students, through their research and interacting with experts in the field, coming up with plans to combat hate and protect the victims of these forms of hate.
