American Jews have never made up more than four percent of the US population and today they are less than two percent of America. Moreover, like many other ethnic/religious minorities Jews played a relatively minimal role in American politics and government in the decades after mass immigration. However, since the middle of the 20th Century Jews as individuals have played an outsized role in American political life. Why is this so? How has it influenced the development of American democracy?
