GBUS 450 - Joint Ventures&Strat Alliances
Overview
Peter Drucker stated that, “Businesses once grew by one of two ways: grass roots up or by acquisition… Today they grow through alliances – all kinds of dangerous alliances. Joint ventures and customer partnerings, which by the way, very few people understand”. Most companies even small and medium size businesses look at partnerships and alliances as an avenue to grow. This course will provide a framework for identifying the advantages to joint ventures and strategic alliances as well as the pitfalls to avoid, and will culminate in a role play in which participants negotiate terms of an alliance. 

Learning Goals
This course is targeted to the practicing manager, combining the fundamentals of successful joint venturing through concise lectures with learnings through case studies and a simulation/role play in the classroom. This course will cover:
1.	The advantages of joint ventures and alliances to grow business and obtain competitive advantage
2.	Examine if a company is ready for partnership
3.	Choosing a partner and negotiating a JV or alliance
4.	Operating the JV, conflict management and 
5.	Intended/unintended termination
