GOVT 265 - International Law and War
The purpose of this course is to explore international law relating to the use of military force. First, the course will discuss the law relating to the recourse to armed force, what is sometimes referred to as the jus in bello. Second, the course will explore the law relating to the conduct of armed hostilities, what is sometimes referred to as the law of war or the law of armed conflict or international humanitarian law. It is also often referred to as the jus in bello. Third, the course will explore methods of enforcing both these areas of the law, including an examination of the international criminal court. Finally, the course will explore the future of international law with respect to war.
